DigitalFoundry performed another comparison video, although this one is slightly different. While it’s all about Final Fantasy VII, the comparison spreads through several Sony platforms. We can see the 1997 PlayStation original, the PlayStation 3 tech demo and the currently-in-development PlayStation 4 remake side by side. There’s a fourth game included, too: this is the PSP Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core.
Almost two decades of improvement can be seen on the screen, on four platforms total. Including Crisis Core makes some sense, because the PS4 remake is going to include its characters and story arcs as well. You can also see some similarities in character designs between the PSP and the PS4 games. Also, the arrival by train is also present. (Thankfully, DigitalFoundry skipped the 8-bit Famicom demake, which was made in China!)
The Final Fantasy VII remake is going to be in an episodic format, utilizing Unreal Engine 4. Its first episode is going to arrive in 2016 on the PlayStation 4, but other platforms are also going to get it later.
