Assassin’s Creed: a possible new approach

Ubisoft‘s one of the leading franchises, Assassin’s Creed, can prepare for a different turn of events on its tenth birthday in 2017. It’s confirmed that no new main AC installment comes this year, and its place is taken over by Watch Dogs 2. However, this tendency might continue in the future!

Yves Guillemot, CEO of Ubisoft, talked about the strategy. He doesn’t say how often but the Assassin’s Creed games would come on a regular basis. That statement means they might not do a new game every year. Guillemot wants their franchise to step to the next level and with this one-year break and more resources, the developers might be able to do so. 2014’s Unity was problematic and last year’s Syndicate just barely jumped the bar.

Guillemot has other problems, too: Gameloft, a company close to Ubisoft, is slowly getting its stocks purchased by Vincent Bolloré-led Vivendi. Bolloré already got 30% of them, and he also picked up 15% of Ubisoft‘s as well. Guillemot thinks Vivendi will eventually take control of Gameloft, and the same might happen to Ubisoft as well.

Whoever ends up owning the two French companies, Assassin’s Creed did need a little break in the end. Until then, we can wait for the movie.
