Doom – Let’s all be DOOMED again!

PREVIEW – One of the best and oldest FPS franchise’s reboot just got a release date. In honor of this hellish and magical announcement by gathering all the available information into one big article. Demons that can be blown to atoms, amputated limbs, and blood every. Oh and this is only the beginning.

Everything began seven years ago when a new Doom was in the making. However the concept did not meet expectations, so around 2011 they pushed the reset button. The current theme and motif were created pretty recently that can be seen in the trailers. Let’s get down to business and see what lies ahead of us.

Anatomy ID Style

Thanks to the ID Tech 6 engine we can enjoy a rather beautiful sight. Giant explosions, light shining on the weapons, all of these look great. This is enhanced by the special effects. Doom 3’s biggest error was that they focused too much on the horror elements. We had to switch around between the flashlight and the guns, which not everyone liked.

However here the game focuses on hardcore action. Monster after monster we will be able to grind them down to tiny shreds. Some will return from the original games, just with better graphics. It will be fun to shoot imps again, or swear when a giant Hell Knight kills us.

Execute them!

I would like to mention the execution system. The aim of this new mechanic is to quickly, and brutally rip out the parts from monsters that are barely „alive”. There are many options, such as: tearing out the arm of a monster and beating it to death, or gouging out the eyes, and putting in a grenade in its place. Of course no need to worry, the enemies can also do these against us.

Luckily our soldier is not going in naked to combat and has a lot of fun weapons such as the chainsaw, shotgun, and the plasma cannon. I have a feeling that this is not all, and the developers will shower us with weapons for the release time.

Mod your weapons to your hearts desire!

What is new here is that the weapons can be modified, with packages. Such upgrades will be for example allowing the weapon to be used with a secondary firing method. It does not sound too bad. The open and closed sections will switch up the action locations, and the key card system returns. There was a neat scene where a hologram showed us what happened in that room. That allowed the player to move forward as the end of the scene showed the key to a door. Such tactical element was shown in Arkham Knight last time.

Doctors! They are the reason for all evil!

Of course, who could be responsible for such invasion, but a doctor. Her name is Dr. Olivia Prince. Thanks to her, and her cult we have to fight against a few new ugly monsters. We never liked Doom for its story, and this will probably not change in the future. According to rumors, the main campaign will take around 15 to 20 hours. That is pretty good for such a shooter (Hopefully, it will be lengthy enough!)

Those who want to combat against other players instead of demons I have good news. There will be able to have fun in multiplayer, and provide us with maximum enjoyment. Officially there is only a 6VS6 Team Deathmatch, but there are rumors of a Clan Arena mode where the last surviving man wins. Warpath will be territory capture, but I do hope this won’t be it for the multiplayer mode. As it seems pretty thin. Hope you cannot wait to become the Revenant. Plus there is also invisibility, double damage, and a few teleport systems to use tactically. PVP players will also be pleased to learn that they will seem to be getting more weapons to play with compared to the singleplayer games.

No option for co-op but a lot of people are not supporting it. Still even if not in the story, I could enjoy a horde mode in multiplayer, or a wave based infinite mode.

Everything is okay with Doom

I do not know if they are developing any DLC for the game. Based on the available footage the game is impressive. It oozes the original Doom’s ambiance, and that is something that no other game could give us. Hold tight people, not much left for us to try the game!
