The French publisher has a quite aggressive approach towards its future. Is it a common thing to see a movie’s sequel to enter production before the first one is still over half a year away from hitting the cinemas? Yes. This move is either going to make Ubisoft shoot themselves on the foot, or they are very confident that the first Assassin’s Creed movie is going to be successful.
According to Tracking Board, New Regency has begun development of the second Assassin’s Creed film and Michael Fassbender would return both as a producer and an actor. Despite all of that, Ubisoft is trying to pull a very risky move off here.
Not all game-to-movie adaptations become successful. Only Tomb Raider and Resident Evil managed to get multiple installments and have a positive result at the same time. Ubisoft‘s CEO, Yves Guillemot thinks that the actors of the first film (Fassbender, Marion Cotillard, Jeremy Irons and Brendan Gleeson), as well as the director, Justin Kurzel will make Assassin’s Creed a box office hit at the end of 2016.
We’ll see about that.
