We already saw Lara Croft receive movie adaptations, but there’s still more to achieve with her. This is what the Norwegian director, Roar Urthaug (The Wave) thinks. He plans to follow 2013’s Crystal Dynamics‘ Tomb Raider reboot-route.
Urthaug wants to develop an origins story for Lara while depicting her as a real, human being. The Norwegian gentleman has been a fan of Tomb Raider ever since its start two decades ago as he likes strong, powerful female characters.
Urthaug had a somewhat strong statement by announcing he wants to do a modern action movie. Let’s hope he didn’t mean Michael Bay’s interpretation of action, because then we’d get a ton of explosions. Speaking of Bay, Transformer 5’s writer, Geneva Robertson-Dworet will be responsible for the screenplay. Four company works on the film: Square Enix, MGM, Warner Bros. and GK Films. No idea when it will hit the cinemas.
Speaking of Lara, rumors say the company behind the porting to the PlayStation 4 of Rise of the Tomb Raider is going to be Avalanche Studios. We’ll see about it – the PS4 version is set to launch in November.
