Crytek doesn’t want to be a step behind the others. When Unreal Engine 4 became free, Epic received a lot of attention, as well as their engine started to be used even more. It’s now Crytek‘s turn to do the same thing and provide us CryEngine V with a user-, and wallet-friendly approach.
Nowadays, many game engines are free. Think of Amazon’s Lumberjack (which itself is a modified CryEngine – remember, Amazon saved Crytek from going down in 2014!), or the Unity engine. Crytek stepped up to the plate with their „pay what you want” model. They also set up an Indie Development Fund to directly support promising titles. There’s also the Marketplace, where users can share their sounds, 3D objects and other assets with others, plus Crytek‘s own library is available as well.
Humble Bundle also set up a CryEngine bundle, where you can get even more assets for a low price. Check it out here.
