Hungary has been playing a role in video game development. Just to name a few companies: Novotrade, Digital Reality, but Crytek also has a studio in Hungary’s capital, Budapest. This time, there’s a sci-fi game brewing in Overon Station – originally, the concept is based upon István Nemere‘s (he’s been an important sci-fi writer in the country for multiple decades) 1982 novel, The Secret of Dome City.
As Overon Station describes the basics of the concept, „what would you do if you were stuck in an abandoned dome city on Mars? You’ll need to face even more difficult questions than this as the protagonist of the game. Imagine that you wander off unsuspecting with your fellow teammates to explore but suddenly someone steals your spaceship. You get stuck in an abandoned and hostile city where you can sense danger everywhere. The only thing you can count on to survive is your own resourcefulness and the skills of your team. Would you be able to escape? Would you dare to find out the secret of the abandoned Martian Dome City?”
Dome City is going to be a first-person adventure game with a focus on multiplayer. Don’t imagine an MMO, because while the game would have an online, as well as local multiplayer element, it would be limited to three players. The dialogue would be constant between the players, and you can see an example of it below our article. Because of the sci-fi genre, we have to mention the gameplay, too: we will have to make important decisions throughout the story, which can end in multiple ways.
Dome City is slated to have its single player segment out in Autumn 2017, followed by the multiplayer part in the Winter of 2017 on PC. There would also be a PS4 and X1 port, too. Dome City would have VR-support, and its technical basics would be based on the capabilities of the Unreal Engine 4. In audio, the game also aims to be stellar: the team has Petri Alanko on board, who was responsible for Alan Wake in the past.
To have this game become reality, the developers want our support: their aim on Kickstarter is 80000 British Pounds – after a little less than a day, they got 1171. You can read more about the game on Kickstarter on this page.
Hopefully, István Nemere‘s work would become widely spread with the help of Dome City.
