PS4 NEO: Did AMD Confirm It By Accident?

We have heard multiple rumors about the re-release/update coming shortly to the PlayStation 4, not to mention AMD underhandedly referring to the new Sony console as well. There might be another straight line between the two.

There is a small reference on the image below. Upper right corner, „New semi-custom business in 2H 2016.” (Which means October 2016-March 2017.) It could be the Nintendo NX that should be officially presented to the public at the Tokyo Game Show, making the announcement on Nintendo‘s home crowd. But what if it’s a reference to Sony instead?

Every PlayStation model has previously been re-released in a smaller form with newer technology, and it is likely to happen with the PS4 as well. Its initial release date in 2013 meant that Sony had to use the 28nm technology – the 14nm solution would have been ridiculously expensive.

The new technology from AMD would be the 14nm FinFET APU with eight Zen Lite cores, each at 2.1 GHz clock speed – this would mean that the PS4 NEO would not have the Jaguar CPU. The GPU (Polaris) would be about 15-20% faster as well. Rumors also say that the Polaris would be clocked at 911 MHz, a step up from the base PS4‘s 800.

We’ll believe it when we see it – Sony should reveal everything later this year.
