Sony Interactive Entertainment Japan & Asia’s boss, Atsushi Morita had an interview with Japanese magazine 4Gamer, where the PlayStation Vita‘s present and future.
Morita thinks „the Western market is not that big” for the PlayStation Vita. Instead, North American and European players focus on the PlayStation 4. As SIEJA‘s President says „E3 is for the entire world,” not just Japanese players, this is why the PS Vita wasn’t even mentioned during Sony‘s conference. Because of the lack of PS Vita‘s presence, its descent into being forgotten continues in the Western audience, while the handheld shines in the Asian, Japanese regions, due to the Sony aimed the PS Vita at a younger audience.
Morita also got a question about if Sony works on a new handheld or not. His answer was „I cannot answer this at the moment. Despite that, we believe that we can expand, enlarge the PS Vita‘s game library.” (That felt like a PR-response, didn’t it?)
As Sony and Nintendo both silently opens up towards mobile gaming, it’s going to be interesting to see if Sony stays in the handheld fight or not.
