Battlefield‘s Twitter account got a tad too much into the war with the weekend posts.
Battlefield 1 was promoted with making fun of World War I with memes using the #justWWIthings hashtag. One of the controversial posts was a GIF where a soldier was burned alive with a flamethrower, and the comment on it was „when you’re too hot for the club.” This post was saved by PC Gamer deputy editor Paul Savage – you can see it below our article.
If you search for the hashtag on Twitter, you’ll find a lot of disappointed and frustrated responses by the community. However, Electronic Arts pulled the same thing off in July, when they used a similar hashtag for a burning Zeppelin with a post „bask in the glow of a burning airship.”
Quoting Electronic Arts‘ spokesman: „We would like to apologize for any offense caused by the content in the last 24 hours posted on the Battlefield Twitter account. It did not treat the World War I era with the respect and sensitivity that we have strived to maintain with the game and our communications.”
Let’s add EA-executive Peter Moore‘s post: „Trench warfare requires specialty equipment and clothing, thus is born the Battlefield onesie, with pockets for melee weapons and Doritos.” The post got deleted, but the Internet does not forget!
Yesterday, the Origin-issues, now Battlefield…?
