At SXSW 2017, Project Sonic 2017’s final name was revealed.
Remember, SEGA is making two games featuring Sonic The Hedgehog this year. One of them is going to be Sonic Mania, which was pushed from Spring to Summer during the event on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, and Switch to have a better quality upon launch, and the other one will be Sonic Forces, dropping in the midst of the holiday season rush on the same four platforms.
The reason why Sonic Team named the game as such is that the two sides (good and evil) and their forces will clash in Sonic Forces. Sonic Team studio head, Takashi Iizuka said that the new engine using (Hedgehog Engine 2) Sonic Forces is the evolution of both Colors and Generations, two former Sonic Team titles. We can expect three gameplay styles: classic, modern, and an unannounced third one, which will be revealed in the next few months.
Sonic Forces‘ first official gameplay video is now available, and there’s also a new map revealed of Sonic Mania. The two projects are aimed at two different audiences, which could be a good decision on SEGA’s and Sonic Team’s end.
