Deck Nine Games‘ team had a quite lengthy interview with GameSpot, where they explained a few things regarding the prequel.
Zak Garriss, the lead writer of the game, says that they did not work together on Before the Storm with Dontnod – instead, the Square Enix crew was supervising the development. Dontnod played four hours with the first episode, and the feedback was highly positive. Garriss thinks that despite no rewinding, people will replay the episodes to see the branching decisions and the different scenes. The team had huge pressure on them due to the success of the original Life is Strange, but Garriss was motivated to write Chloe’s broken, vulnerable character, which – according to him – can be painted properly over the course of three episodes (6-9 hours).
David Hein, the game’s producer, said that Before the Storm is going to support the PlayStation 4 and the Xbox One X with 4K upscaling (not a lot of details were mentioned…). Hale also added that you don’t have to know the original Life is Strange to play Before the Storm: you can play the prequel through, then move on to play the original, but in case you already know Arcadia Bay, you may see familiar faces and a few easter eggs.
The first episode of Life is Strange: Before the Storm will launch on August 31 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
