Kurt Magenau attacked Polyphony Digital‘s game’s approach.
Magenau was co-lead designer of Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, as well as the director of Uncharted: Lost Legacy – he had quite a negative opinion of Gran Turismo Sport, which saw its servers go down. It’s important because you cannot save your progress (not even the offline career mode’s!) without going online.
„Whose idea was this?”, or calling Gran Turismo a „photo car shoot simulator” – just to quote a few of his comments. Here they are in full: „Servers are still down. Wouldn’t be so bad if you could save progress while offline. Who’s idea was this?”; „Not The Real Driving Simulator. More like the pretty cool holiday music and sick car photo shoot simulator?”; „The biggest technical hurdle of getting my Xbox-licensed Fanatec wheel working with #GTSport is the connection to the Polyphony server to play the game?”. He sounds quite harsh.
Kazunori Yamauchi, the father of Gran Turismo, responded on Twitter, saying that the servers are being reinstated, and they are now already working as they were supposed to do so. Still, we rarely see Sony infighting, especially during the holidays.
