PlayStation 4: Dropping Sales On One Front And Gaining On Another

The PlayStation 4‘s Christmas balance isn’t entirely positive.

Sony Interactive Entertainment‘s statement reveals that during the holiday season (November 20 – December 31), 5.9 million PlayStation 4s were sold, pushing the lifetime sales to 73.6 million. Not bad, but it’s a year-on-year drop from 6.2 million a year before. On the other hand, the games’ sales saw an increase, as 55.9 million of them were sold on the PlayStation Store and in physical format combined (and it is an increase from the 2016 result of 50.4 million), pushing the game sales to 645 million. On average, one PlayStation 4 thus has 8.76 games. The PlayStation Plus subscribers also saw an increase to 31.5 million, which means almost every second console owner is subscribed to the Plus service…

Siliconera translated Sony’s interview to Nikkei, and in it, the company says that they plan to launch 130 PlayStation VR games by the end of 2018, which is way higher than the October number when they said they’d like to release 60 titles by early 2018.

Strong figures, without a doubt.

Still, she likes puzzle and story-oriented games, like Sherlock Holmes: Crimes & Punishments, which is her favourite title. She also played The Sims 3, but after accidentally killing a whole sim family, swore not to play it again. (For our office address, email and phone number check out our IMPRESSUM)
