The head of marketing of Xbox says the Xbox One sold better than the PlayStation 4 in December. However, he did not mention something initially!
„Thank you to everyone who helped support Xbox One this holiday, [the] NPD Group just reported our highest Xbox One December console share ever, looking forward to a big 2018!”, Greenberg said on Twitter. Indeed, the Xbox One finished ahead of the PlayStation 4, as the Xbox One X sales were included. (Does PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, which has over 3 million players on Microsoft’s console, matter this much?)
The twist here is that the Nintendo Switch defeated both Sony and Microsoft in December. Therefore, it’s no surprise to see Greenberg correct himself: „Was trying to just thank folks for supporting us and the incredible success following the launch of Xbox One X, but yes, Xbox outsold PS4 in December for Gen 8 consoles according to NPD data, while Nintendo also had a great month as Switch had most overall units.”
Is Microsoft celebrating second place…?
