SEGA Mega Drive Mini: Following Nintendo’s Footsteps?

The other major SEGA Fes announcement was the mini Mega Drive.

We have to explain a bit of background history first: SEGA decided to make a mini Mega Drive (or Genesis in the United States; remember how Nintendo made a mini NES and SNES, as well as the Commodore 64,  getting a modernized adaptation?) is because the console turns thirty this year. In Japan, the SEGA Mega Drive launched on October 29, 1988, to compete against Nintendo’s Famicom (aka the NES outside the domestic market).

The announcement can be read here, and maybe this move can make up for the mistakes that AtGames has done with the SEGA Genesis Flashback console. SEGA‘s COO already said that they plan to come back to the console hardware market with a mini Mega Drive.

We should talk about the technical details of the SEGA Mega Drive Mini, but we don’t know anything: the specifications, the list, and number of the titles, or whether it will get a Western release or not – all we know is that the SEGA Mega Drive Mini will launch this year in Japan…
