Sony responds to the success of Xbox Game Pass – but will it be too late?
Last week, we already wrote about that the PlayStation Now, which costs 15 dollars a month, received a download button, perhaps a bit prematurely. The streaming service might expand this autumn by offering PlayStation 4 games to be downloaded and played that way, making it a direct competition to Microsoft’s Xbox Game Pass service.
Kotaku UK, based on an industrial source, claims the following: „The functionality is due to roll out in late September this year, but will be limited to PlayStation 4 games (at least initially). Yes, that means the dream of playing Demon’s Souls on PlayStation 4 remains just that. The games you download will work in the same way that PlayStation Plus games do: that is, they’ll work as long as you have an active PlayStation Now subscription, and should be playable offline on your primary PlayStation 4. Much like other PlayStation content, the games can also be played on other accounts that share the same PlayStation 4.”
If such a source claims this (and not just a Reddit topic), this rumour should be taken seriously. Sony should be announcing this improvement to PlayStation Now in August, at Gamescom. It might take some attention away from Microsoft…
