Although Gran Turismo Sport wasn’t as successful as the first, second, or the fourth titles were, Polyphony Digital still has a reason to celebrate…
Kazunori Yamauchi, the father of Gran Turismo, as well as the head of Polyphony Digital, announced on Twitter that the Autumn 2016-launched, PlayStation 4-exclusive Gran Turismo Sport has five million players. Again, we have to point out that it’s not as impressive even as Gran Turismo 5, which launched in late 2010 after several delays, and it still had over ten million sales…
We hope that Gran Turismo 7 (which should eventually happen, shouldn’t it?) will leave the official racing and go back to the franchise’s roots. As Yamauchi himself thinks that there’s still a lot to improve for Gran Turismo, we can be hopeful about the future.
However, it seems that the current console generation will not get two main Gran Turismo games (the PS2 had GT Concept in several versions but content-wise it lacked compared to 4 or even 3…), especially how we’re in the second half of 2018 with no news about the next instalment.
