We learned why we have to resort to the HTC Vive or the Oculus Rift (powered by a high-end PC…) to experience the psychosis adventure in virtual reality.
Although the game is about to launch for the two VR headsets on July 31 (and, if you own Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice on Steam already, you’ll get the VR Edition for free), the PlayStation VR is not going to get the game. Ninja Theory, the game’s developers, who recently got acquired by Microsoft, revealed on Twitter why there would be no PSVR port:
„To answer the question: Hellblade VR won’t be coming to PSVR, purely because the VR Edition has been created for very high-end PC VR setups. You can see more on this in our dev diary.” Indeed – the PlayStation VR and the PlayStation 4 (regardless of the console’s version!) aren’t as capable of virtual reality as a current PC, and Sony does not allow developing games exclusively for the PlayStation 4 Pro, which is more equipped for VR experiences.
So, now we know why Senua will be „PlayStation VR-less…”
