Is The PlayStation 5 Coming With PlayStation 4 Backward Compatibility?

There’s a possibility that the PlayStation 5 would play older PlayStation titles, too.

The Xbox One has had its backward compatibility for a while now, allowing us to play Xbox 360 games on it directly. However, this link doesn’t exist between the PlayStation 4 and the PlayStation 3. If we can believe this patent filed by Sony Interactive Entertainment America LLC, there’s a chance that via emulation, the PlayStation 5 could run games from the previous generation, or maybe even generations.

The patent is available to the public since October 2, and it is about „remastering by emulation” – in short, it means that the PlayStation 5 would increase the PlayStation games’ resolution, and possibly apply improved visual effects as well.

Let’s hope Sony will come through with this patent, and without making us repurchase previous games (because the PlayStation 2 titles on PlayStation 4 require us to do so…).

Still, she likes puzzle and story-oriented games, like Sherlock Holmes: Crimes & Punishments, which is her favourite title. She also played The Sims 3, but after accidentally killing a whole sim family, swore not to play it again. (For our office address, email and phone number check out our IMPRESSUM)
