Disruptive Games‘ Megalith, which was announced in October, has received an open beta, which is now available on the PlayStation Store.
Megalith will be Disruptive’s first game on their own (as they didn’t have the chance to go solo – they were also helping the now-defunct Robomodo with Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 5 on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in the Autumn of 2015…), and they are trying to be successful with a hybrid game (a hero shooter with MOBA elements – the latter term applies because you will have minions/followers…) on the PlayStation VR. (We might have to wait a bit in Europe.) They announced all the details on the PlayStation Blog.
The game, which seems to have been inspired by Overwatch, will initially have five characters (Titans), and two of them will be available. They will be rotated, and other players might have different characters to access… unless they pre-order because then they’ll have access to all five Titans. They will also get an avatar pack, a DLC Titan when the game launches, as well as one epic skin each to the five launch Titans.
„In Megalith, choose from one of five starting Titans and work in teams of two to take on other Titans in battle. The Titans each wield unique powers and abilities derived from their origin. These abilities can be used alone, but become even more effective when coordinated with an ally. Each team must protect their side while attempting to lead their minions into enemy territory and breach their defences. Titans will need to destroy enemy walls and towers to make their bases vulnerable to attack. Powerful siege minions can be summoned to aid in the path to victory,” the PS Blog reads. The five characters and their skills follow: Tundra: Frost Blast (Primary), Ice Shield, Ice Shackles, Permafrost, Ice Age (Ultimate); Cipher: Bounce Launcher (Primary), Boomerang, Tether Pull, Rupture, Tracker Orbs (Ultimate); Taur: Swipe (Primary), Charge, Acid Spit, Rage Mode, Stoneblock (Ultimate); Aurora: Ethereal Burst (Primary),Chain Lightning, Ion Shell, Tempest, Wrath Of Heaven (Ultimate); Hunter: Crossbow (Primary), Arrow Volley, Explosive Arrow, Talisman, Solar Beam (Ultimate)
So the beta runs from today for those who own a PlayStation VR. Will Megalith be capable of cloning Overwatch’s (and… say, DotA 2’s) success on VR? We’ll see… as the game will launch on January 8.
