It seems the publisher might have used the critical comments about Battlefield V as a form of marketing during the game’s launch party.
The World War II FPS, which launched on November 20, already gave out bad vibes before its release according to the Internet, primarily due to Electronic Arts using a woman with a prosthetic limb in the game’s marketing. Then, Patrick Söderlund (who has left Electronic Arts since) said „Battlefield 5 is a lot about the unseen, the untold, the unplayed. The common perception is that there were no women in World War II. There were a ton of women who both fought in World War II and partook in the war.” He added that those who complain are „uneducated and they don’t understand.”
Well, there are a couple of images taken at Battlefield V‘s launch party from Sweden on Reddit, and going by these photos, it looks like Battlefield V utilises the comments as a form of marketing tool. We’ll quote them: „Feminism ruins everything, feminazis are trying to rewrite history,” „Genderfield 5!”, „White men! White men! White men!”, „What the f__k were the developers thinking?”, „My grandfather stormed the beaches of Normandy for this?” And even the Reddit topic title is thoughtful: „Battlefield V: Well, it’s nice to see they’ve learned from all…”
This banner is unbelievable – these thoughts led to Battlefield V underperforming before it came out, but perhaps they indeed have taken a turn away from the reality. Still, Electronic Arts using such comments to promote their game might not be a good idea…
