In a „Special Developer Update”, Capcom revealed what they plan to do with Monster Hunter: World, a successful game, in 2019. A new expansion and a surprising collaboration are the most important.
We’ll go in their release window order – all of them mention the console versions! Between December 19 and January 3, the Kulve Taroth monster’s original version will be replaced by an arch-tempered format, and Capcom recommends teamwork to get the „incredible rewards,” and to survive the strong attacks. In January, the Appreciation Fest will celebrate the game’s first birthday: the hub will be changed, the „favourite features” of the seasonal updates will return, and new equipment can be earned via new missions – Capcom will reveal further details at a later date.
In early 2019, the biggest surprise of them all happens: Monster Hunter: World will team up with The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt! Geralt (whose original voice will be heard, too!) will show up in the Monster Hunter-world, and we can expect new, RPG-like quests. This announcement might be the most surprising from Capcom this year. More information at a later date, have a teaser for now:
The fourth update in Spring will have an arch-tempered Nergigante, but in the Fall, a new expansion will come to the game! Monster Hunter World: Iceborne will be as big as the franchise’s G or Ultimate instalments. The game will continue where the main story ends, and there will also be „new quest rank, monsters, locales, moves, and equipment!” Here, the „console” word was not mentioned (regarding the PC updates, Capcom said they would announce their launch windows later), which means Iceborne should be out simultaneously on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC…
Last but not least, there will be a limited-time demo for the game. Quoting the press release: „The trial version gives you a full taste of what Monster Hunter: World can offer, including quests, equipment crafting and upgrading, and online multiplayer up to Hunter Rank 4, and 3-star quests. Your save data from the trial version will carry over to the full retail version. Players of the trial version can even hunt online with players who own the retail version. The trial version will be available from 4:00 p.m. PST on December 11 to 3:59 PST on December 17.”
So, Geralt in the Monster Hunter universe… not bad.
