With the mini consoles, we cannot use our old discs and cartridges. Here is an example of how it could be done! It could be looked at as a replacement for a no-more-manufactured console.
Here’s the My Arcade Retro Champ, which was demoed at CES. It has an HDMI out, and a battery life of 3-5 hours. So far, that sounds average, but here is the usual twist: this handheld allows you to use both NES and Famicom cartridges, as there are two cartridge slots on this device!
While there aren’t any built-in games, still, via HDMI, you can play your collection in high definition, and you can also use the company’s controllers wirelessly, although the base version of Retro Champ will not have any controllers bundled. There will be a mini cleaning kit, though, which is always good to have to clean the cartridges.
The My Arcade Retro Champ will launch in June for 80 dollars – it could replace Nintendo’s NES Classic, which isn’t being made anymore. While you don’t get any built-in games, it’s still a unique approach that Nintendo, SEGA, Sony or SNK didn’t think of!
