No matter how fast we are approaching the next console generation, Sony doesn’t seem to ignore the PlayStation 4 already.
In 2019 (or in early 2020…), three first-party exclusive games are heading to the PlayStation 4: Days Gone (SIE Bend), Ghost of Tsushima (Sucker Punch), and The Last of Us Part II (Naughty Dog – it was previously rumoured to arrive in October), as well as Death Stranding (Kojima Productions – we heard about it that compared to its originally planned but not revealed release date, it will be slightly delayed). On top of these, the Japanese company will have more for us in store, and one title will be from a second-party dev team (who aren’t owned by Sony, but they mostly make games for their platforms).
Kinda Funny’s Colin Moriarty was asked on Twitter whether Sony will expand by acquiring studios (which is what Microsoft has been doing across 2018) The answer follows: „They’ve done such a nice job cultivating second party relationships (there’s a fairly substantial PlayStation 4-exclusive yet to be announced from second-party) that it’s unclear if they feel they need to. All we know is expansion hasn’t been part of their strategy. Maybe that’ll change.”
Who could this team be? Kojima Productions can be ruled out (they have Death Stranding), but the others can’t – Clap Hanz (Everybody’s Golf), Housemarque, Quantic Dream, Supermassive Games, Insomniac Games. We’d put our bet on Supermassive – they are definitely preparing something, going by the trademark registrations. Quantic Dream needs time after Detroit: Become Human…
We’ll see by the summer, as Sony will skip the E3, but they will definitely have a different event…
