The Caped Crusader is the protagonist of one of the most successful sagas in the industry.
On March 30, 1939, Detective Comic # 27 was printed, a number that would go down in history for hosting the first appearance of The Batman in its pages. Now, 80 years later, the industry celebrates with joy the birthday of this justice created by Bob Kane and Bill Finger that has left us so many good memories in the world of the cartoons as in movies, animation series and, of course, video games.
Especially during this last decade, and this August will make 10 years of the premiere of Batman: Arkham Asylum, a title developed by Rocksteady Studios which would be followed by two more games: Batman: Arkham City and Batman: Arkham Knight and another game produced by Warner Bros. and made by WB Games Montréal: Batman: Arkham Origins. Of course, the production of Batman video games began much earlier: in the mid-80s.
The Caped Crusader starred in his last release in the industry with Batman: Arkham Knight (2015), although we could also see him with a prominent role in Injustice 2 (2017). And we do not seem to have to wait much longer to see the hero of Gotham in action since everything seems to indicate that soon there will be a new game of Batman with the Court of the Owls as the main antagonist.
Meanwhile, this week Detective Comic # 1000 has gone on sale, which has been the first appearance of Arkham Knight in Batman comics. Indeed, we are talking about the iconic character, that Rocksteady created an with the Arkham Knight for Batman: Arkham Knight. An antagonist that he developed in collaboration with DC Comics and that, therefore, we took for granted that sooner or later he would end up being part of the universe of comics. Now we can say it, it is canonical for all purposes.
Specifically, it is in Detective Comics 1,000 , released this week, when it has officially begun to be part of this universe. It is a volume that is already on sale, and that comes loaded with stories from all periods of Batman but that, in its final stretch, will offer the Medieval story in which this character is presented and that is the first time he leaves the Arkham universe in which he was born.
The number is a celebration of the figure of Batman, and has signings as famous as Scott Snyder, Tom King or Paul Dini. The aforementioned, Medieval, is instead written by Peter J. Tomasi, and will continue in the number 1.001.
