We’ve learned several new details about the new Borderlands, after it indeed got a detailed reveal on April 3.
In Borderlands 3, the Vault Hunters will have to stop the Calypso Twins, and we’ll have four Vault Hunters to choose from, each with their unique skills and playstyle. Moze the gunner can hop into his mech called Iron Bear, Amara the Siren is good for melee attacks, FL4K the beastmaster uses his beasts to tear the enemies apart, and Zane the operative can sneak onto the battlefield and cause chaos there with his gadgets.
There will – obviously – be co-op gameplay with up to four players (there’s also going to be split-screen co-op!), and with the new level scaling system, we can join at any time, and we will get unique loot. (And, as expected, there will be a „bazillion” guns.) What else do we have here? RPG-like progression with a unique skill tree per Vault Hunter, a rich universe, intensive vehicular combat (which never seemed to be lacking in the other games), and – it might be a bit exaggerating – a radical art style.
Borderlands 3 will be available in several versions. Each version’s pre-order bonus is gold weapon skins and a weapon trinket. The Standard Edition for 60 dollars/euros is nothing special. The 80 dollar/euro Deluxe Edition ($79.99) has the Retro Cosmetic Pack and the Neon Cosmetic Pack (each with Vault Hunter head & skin, Echo Device skin, weapon skin), the Gearbox Cosmetic Pack (weapon skin, weapon trinket), the Toy Box Weapon Pack (two Toy guns, Toy grenade mod, weapon trinket), and XP & Loot Drop Boost Mods. The Super Deluxe Edition will be a hundred dollars/euros until September 17 (after it, it will be 120 digitally), and it contains the Deluxe Edition and the pre-order bonus contents, as well as the season pass with four campaign expansions, plus the Butt Stallion weapon skin, weapon trinket, and grenade mod.
The most expensive edition is the 250 dollars/euro Diamond Loot Chest Collector’s Edition (available at GameStop), it will have everything from the Super Deluxe Edition, as well as a Diamond Loot Chest Replica, ten Borderlands 3 character figurines, each being about three inches tall („the four new Vault Hunters, the fanatical Calypso Twins, and some of your favorite characters from the Borderlands universe”), the Sanctuary 3 snap model ship (complete with stand) that you can construct, four Vault Key keychains, a cloth galaxy map made by Typhon DeLeon, five character art lithographs, and a Borderlands 3 Steelbook case.
Borderlands 3 will indeed launch on Friday, September 13, on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and on PC, exclusively on the Epic Games Store (until April 2020). Gearbox‘ game got a batch of new images (including the box art – the different editions have different background colours), and a new trailer.
