We won’t skip a year with a video game adaptation of the motocross world championship.
Milestone published a new trailer for MXGP 2019. In it, one of the main features is the level editor. „For the first time in the franchise history, players will have a Track Editor to create their favourite track fully customized with specific Motocross modules. But that’s not all! They can also select different environments where to set the track, all with different features like woods, desert, riviera and other available shortly after the D1. Tracks created by players can be shared with the community to compete with them!”, the press release says. However, there’s a comment on the trailer that has a good point: „What happened to the elevation change in the track editor that was advertised?” If that’ll not be part of the editor, we’ll say that the Italian dev team should perhaps get their act together, as the elevation change was already part of a level editor in V-Rally 2. A game that came out on the PS1 in June 1999, followed by a PC and a Dreamcast port. That game allowed you to make hills and valleys. twenty years ago!
The other new addition is The Waypoint. „Milestone also showed a glimpse of a new game mode called, The Waypoint. Set inside the Playground, where players can freely roam, it will allow players to design their off-road path, putting checkpoints on the ground, to race them across to set the best lap. Then, players can share their creation to challenge the Community! Endless user-generated challenges, to find out who’s the king of the Playground!”, the press release says. This doesn’t need much work or infrastructure to be made, though. And that last sentence – if the servers will be shut down in a few years, nobody will be that so-called king. Game preservation for future generations? What’s that?
MXGP 2019, containing the 2019 MXGP season, as well as its tracks, bikes and riders, will launch on August 27 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. It seems the Nintendo Switch will not get the game.
