Gears 5 Breaks Records Since Seven Years

Still, the success of Gears 5  is just as surprising as what Randy Pitchford, the head of Gearbox, said about Borderlands 3: not at all whatsoever.

On Xbox Wire, Aaron Greenberg, Microsoft’s general manager of Xbox Marketing, announced that the new Gears of War developed by The Coalition has become the most-played Xbox Game Studios title since 2012’s Halo 4 (!), which was an Xbox 360 title. Seven years ago – now that is a long time, and it shows how much Master Chief matters! Gears 5 had twice as higher figures were what Gears of War 4 could do in 2016 (also developed by The Coalition).

„Thanks to the incredible support from our fans, Gears 5 kicked off the Holiday season strong – attracting over three million players in its opening weekend and setting new records for Xbox Game Pass with the biggest launch week of any Xbox Game Studios title this generation. The performance easily doubled the first week’s debut of Gears of War 4 and made Gears 5 the most-played Xbox Game Studios title in its first week since 2012’s Halo 4. First-week performance includes the four-day early access period beginning Friday, September 6, which was exclusive to Gears 5 Ultimate Edition and Xbox Game Pass Ultimate members,” Greenberg wrote in the post.

Unsurprisingly, there are no exact numbers in the post, but we do have to mention something else outside the fact that the gaming industry continues to grow: via the Xbox Game Pass, you can spend two dollars to have a two-month subscription, and via the service, you can play through the game in this period. With this approach, it’s not that hard to reach high numbers, but a lot of small results can lead to a big one, and The Coalition‘s title has done so with this announcement.
