One of the potentially last major software upgrade of the console is already under testing.
One of the newest alpha updates seem to be extremely revamping the dashboard on the Xbox One, which is constantly updated by Microsoft (we don’t mean new games but its system software, or firmware), and, unlike Sony, they also tend to try boosting the performance as well. Those who are part of the Xbox Insider program can already give the new firmware a shot.
The Xbox Insider users have access to the alpha, beta, and delta versions of the new Xbox One firmware. The speed increase can be noticeable in the video below, taken from Reddit. It looks much faster than what we have seen in say, 2015 or 2016. We have to add that the design isn’t final yet, so it might be entirely different when Microsoft makes the new firmware available for everyone (as it’s not public yet!). Let’s hope the speed will remain when it drops, though.
Microsoft hasn’t officially confirmed the firmware yet, but if they test already, it cannot be fake (unless it is a detailed hoax…), so the question is when the firmware will be public. It will possibly be part of the next seasonal update, meaning it could be playing a role in the Fall 2019 update.
Also, let us not forget about another significant addition – Microsoft announced that the Google Assistant voice command system will also join the Xbox One. You can register for the beta test on this link. For example, you can say the following to your Xbox One: „Hey Google, play Gears 5 on Xbox,” and your console will promptly launch the game for you.
We wonder what Sony will do in response to this speed increase.
