Don’t worry, it looks like the next-gen Xbox will not have a camera after all.
Yesterday, we wrote about what Gizmodo reported based on an anonymous source. The next-gen PlayStation (PlayStation 5?) and Xbox (Xbox Project Scarlett) will use a different approach in making real-time ray tracing possible, and that both consoles will perform the biggest jump in computing performance so far. The post also said that there will be a camera in both consoles. Now, Gizmodo’s article has been updated with their tipster saying the console will not include a 4K camera after all. (At this rate, we could probably doubt the entire rumour itself.)
Two points then – first, we don’t have to worry about a camera always on us as part of the console (the Xbox One somewhat pulled it off, as initially, this console was sold bundled with the Kinect, which pushed the price a hundred dollars higher than the PlayStation 4’s, effectively killing its chance at succeeding in the early years…), plus the lack of the camera would also have a good effect on the Xbox Project Scarlett’s price, as it would have increased the costs. (But we don’t know how much the next-gen Xbox could cost, especially how there’s no info on it yet, plus there’s also the ongoing trade war between the United States and China, which will likely impact Europe as well, making us pay more…) However, there could still be a camera in the console, but not with a 4K resolution. Who knows?
The Xbox Project Scarlett will launch in late 2020, and the PlayStation 5 will follow suit. Both consoles will use AMD’s Radeon Navi GPU and Ryzen Zen 2 CPU, but we can likely expect some differences between the two consoles…
