So far, two Vampire: The Masquerade games were confirmed. Now, it’s three – we’re going to discuss two of them.
Let’s start with the new one. Bigben Interactive announced that a narrative RPG, named Vampire: The Masquerade – Swansong, will arrive in 2021. It is developed by Big Bad Wolf, the same team that dared to upgrade the Telltale formula with The Council by adding RPG elements to it. „At the studio, we’re long-time and passionate fans of the tabletop role-playing game Vampire: The Masquerade. We have wanted to create a video game inspired by this universe for several years now. This project fits perfectly with Bigben’s desire to expand its catalogue of narrative games. We are very happy to be unveiling it together,” Thomas Veauclin, the creative & art Director at Big Bad Wolf said. „My experience as an editor and author of role-playing games, and also as Editor-in-Chief of an RPG magazine, is proof of how important this project means to me personally. Just like me, many fans have been waiting a long time for a new adaptation of this cult game, which will be developed by one of the most talented studios of its generation,” Benoit Clerc, the head of publishing at Bigben, added.
This RPG is based on the fifth version of Vampire: The Masquerade. In it, we’ll control three vampires that all are in the Camarilla (the secret society of the vampires), all in a different clan. Their stories will intertwine, and we’ll see different angles of the same events. Our goal will be to protect our clan, find out the truth, and above all, enforce the Masquerade (no superpowers can be seen by humans!). There is no release date (aside from a 2021 window), and no platforms are announced – it’s likely in development for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Project Scarlett.
Previously, we wrote about Vampire: The Masquerade – Coteries of New York. This game is also based on the 5th edition of the RPG, and Draw Distance has confirmed that the narrative adventure game (with some visual novel elements) will launch on December 4 on Steam, followed by a Q1 2020 release window for the Nintendo Switch, and they are in talks with Paradox Interactive, the IP holders of World of Darkness, to make a PlayStation 4 and Xbox One port.
So Bloodlines is getting a sequel (it got delayed recently, as we discussed), Coteries of New York is here soon, and in 2021, Swansong is coming. Vampire: The Masquerade has been revived in the past year…
