It seems that several former Ubisoft employees have moved to Google Stadia‘s game development studio, and it’s not that surprising if you think about it.
So Google has a studio named Stadia Games & Entertainment. This Montreal-based studio is headed by Jade Raymond, who worked at Electronic Arts before Google (producer at Motive, involvement in Star Wars: Battlefront II), and before that, she was instrumental at Ubisoft in doing the groundwork for Assassin’s Creed’s success. Unsurprisingly, VGC reports that Raymond has effectively poached employees from her former employer, and they are people that previously worked on Assassin’s Creed.
Stadia Games’ new general director will be Sébastien Puel, who has been Assassin’s Creed’s executive producer for over a decade. The new head of the first-party production is Francois Pelland, the former executive director of development at Ubisoft Quebec. This team worked on Assassin’s: Creed Syndicate. Mathieu Leduc has moved from Ubisoft to Stadia as an art director, and he contributed to both Assassin’s Creed and Watch Dogs games.
Meanwhile, on Reddit, there’s an… unusual image. Someone wanted to play NBA 2K20 (or stream, to be exact, as Google Stadia is a streaming service), but they found themselves looking at a screen that said the game was downloading an update. Google’s community manager responded by saying that the game now works properly after a small update and that it was a bug that put the player on a screen that shouldn’t have been seen. Are we going to see patches getting streamed as well? What a weird bug…
So, after the rough start (pre-orders under expectations, not entirely 4K resolution, etc.), Google is still planning for a long term with Stadia, which should be expanding its accessibility in 2020.
