Free Guy: Ryan Reynolds As An NPC [VIDEO]

MOVIE NEWS – Free Guy: What if a non-playable character gets a free will?

Free Guy got a new trailer four days ago. In it, an irrelevant, non-playable character (or NPC for short) gets free will. He no longer wants to be a limited artificial intelligence. Thus, the situation is like in the Truman Show, but with a video game twist. Reynolds’ character will use the powers to stop the open-world video game from its extinction and to decide his destiny. (With this plot, Free Guy effectively takes a jab at modern video games trying to introduce obsolescence. It’s a factor that we cannot leave uncommented: the constant Internet connection requirement, as well as forcing us to connect to servers will make the games unplayable in the future – for example, it would have been an unbelievable thing if it happened to Wing Commander three decades ago. You can easily pull that game off your shelf and play it today. Modern games, like Anthem, will not have the same fate.)

In Free Guy, aside from Ryan Reynolds, we’ll see Jodie Comer, Joe Keery, Taika Waititi, Channing Tatum, and Lil Rey Howery. Its director will be Stranger Things director Shawn Levy (who should be tied to the Uncharted film adaptation, which has been in a standstill for a decade now). Zak Penn (The Avengers) and Matt Lieberman (2019’s The Addams Family) penned the script.

„I haven’t been this fully immersed and engaged in something since Deadpool,” Reynolds said at New York Comic-Con. „Free Guy has a sense of heart and a real sense of character. [Director Shawn Levy] instilled the same thing in this movie. It has the background of the video game but at the end of the day it’s a character piece and for all of us as actors, that’s the best thing to work on. That’s all you can ask for out of a piece,” Keery added, also at the NYCC.

Free Guy is set to hit theatres worldwide on July 3, 2020.

She also played The Sims 3, but after accidentally killing a whole sim family, swore not to play it again. (For our office address, email and phone number check out our IMPRESSUM)
