US Politician Who Spent Campaign Money On Steam Resigns

Duncan Hunter, a Republican congressman from California, will get jailed shortly for illegally spending campaign funds.

Previously, we discussed Hunter’s case, so we’ll shortly recap: he mismanaged the campaign money and credit card he was provided by spending it on Steam games and many more. The vaping politician (even the San Diego Union-Tribune points it out) cannot escape from justice: he announced he is resigning, and officially, he will leave his position on January 13 after admitting last month that he is guilty (which is funny as his wife has done the same thing several months ago…).

In his resignation letter, Hunter said he was honoured to serve the 50th district of California over the past decade. „I greatly appreciate the trust they have put in me over these last 11 years,” the now-former congressman wrote. The Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of California announced in December that Hunter admitted he „knowingly and willfully stole hundreds of thousands of dollars in campaign funds that he and his wife used to maintain their lifestyle.”

The amount of no joke: between 2010 and 2016, Duncan Hunter and his wife have spent more than 150 thousand dollars for „personal use and enjoyment,” and Hunter reportedly took part in „30 or more illegal transactions”. The couple spent the money on video games, LEGO sets, fast food, movie tickets, shoes, groceries, international vacations, and plane tickets for their pet rabbits (named Eggburt and Cadbury). The bunny plane tickets are the most shocking of them all…

Duncan Hunter will be sentenced in March. He might be spending up to five years in prison, and a 250 thousand-dollar fine is also likely to happen, meaning his penalty will be much bigger than the amount of damage he caused with the illegal spending. Don’t tell us his Congress pay wasn’t enough to sustain his lifestyle…
