Even though Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, the film with the Roman number IX launched late last year, the Mouse Empire (aka Disney) still wants to expand the franchise, and not just with movies.
Making Star Wars, and Ziro, a Hungarian publication, two reliable websites, believe that Lucasfilm is already working on the franchise’s expansion.
The project’s codename is Project Luminous, and it would be set four hundred years before the Skywalker saga, set in The High Republic era, featuring a few Jedis that would try to discover the outer regions of the galaxy. A young Yoda has also been planned because the baby Yoda got so much attention that Disney wants to milk this idea even further. The films wouldn’t be in a trilogy format, but they’d follow the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) idea, where the stories are standalone with possibilities of crossovers. (And Marvel is also owned by Disney.)
Project Luminous is rumoured to start in 2021 with a new game, which would potentially be published by Electronic Arts, as they have the license. The game could be made either at EA’s Montreal-based Motive (which was formerly led by ex-Ubisoft Jade Raymond, who is now heading Google’s Stadia studio), or DICE Los Angeles, which is yet to be renamed and expanded from a support studio role, led by Respawn-founder Vince Zampella. We’d guess it’s being made by Motive: two years isn’t enough to make a quality AAA title, even with Respawn’s previously mentioned quick prototyping.
2021 makes us believe the first game of Project Luminous (because it’s Disney, it has to be more…) would have a PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox (Series X) version, whenever it launches. It’s all unofficial for now, but seeing Disney, it’s probably true.
