We might have to wait several years for the Resident Evil 8 game.
AestheticGamer on Twitter is also on ResetEra. He had correct information about Resident Evil 3’s remake before it got announced by Capcom. On Twitter, he explained in detail what the situation is around one of the main franchises of the Japanese company.
„Resident Evil 8 is years away. There was a version of Resident Evil 8 that was in development since late 2016, though it went on pause during 2017 due to needing more hands on for Resident Evil 7’s DLC and Resident Evil 2 Remake (which was behind schedule at the time). Still, there was a number eight Resident Evil version that was in the works for a few years. However, it actually got officially scrapped and the project rebooted only like 6-7 months ago, so the „final” version hasn’t even been in development for a full year yet. Now, these reboots often go faster because some assets and such are carried over, but don’t expect Resident Evil 8 anytime soon.
There also won’t be any Resident Evil remakes out in the next few years after Resident Evil 3 Remake. There are a couple of other Capcom games being rebooted in the same vein as Resident Evil 2 & Resident Evil 3 though in the RE Engine, which should be seen pretty soon. There is another Resident Evil game which will probably release next year, but it’s not a remake nor Resident Evil 8,” he wrote.
Let’s take a few guesses (and then we’ll play the lottery): Capcom’s RE Engine remake plans probably include Onimusha and Dino Crisis. The unknown Resident Evil game could be Resident Evil: Revelations 3. Rebooting Resident Evil 8 (which is likely going to arrive in 2022) isn’t unusual: Capcom has previously rebooted several main RE games (such as 2 or mainly 4).
However, keep in mind that all this information is unconfirmed.
