After the leaked Brazilian rating (18+), another country with a harsh rating board has rated CD Projekt RED‘s game.
Australia is a tough nut. They either refused to rate games (Saints Row IV, State of Decay), or required games to be censored to be sold (THe Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings), or we saw some hefty censorship for the game altogether there (South Park: The Stick of Truth). CD Projekt RED’s Kuza Kutrzuba told GameSpot that the Australians can get the game with an R18+ rating.
„Receiving an age rating in Australia was an important milestone on our way to releasing the game in September. We’re creating a mature title for a mature audience, so we were expecting R18+. We haven’t had to alter the game in any way and Australian gamers are set to enjoy the full Cyberpunk 2077 experience,” he said. Previously, John Mamais – also of CD Projekt RED – was expecting such a rating, but he had some fears: „I was [concerned about censorship] because I know Australia has issues with drugs and the other thing is sexualised violence–those are the two things that can kill your product [in Australia], but I’ve been looking into it [over] the last couple of days. It seems like we’re safe. You don’t get rewarded for [using] drugs as far as I know in the game. The player doesn’t do any kind of sexualised violence at all where it’s tasteless; we wouldn’t do anything like that,” he said. You can see the box art below. This rating means the game might not get censored, but Germany’s USK could be causing trouble yet for the sex scenes.
Cyberpunk 2077 got an 8K upscaled video from its gameplay demo. It was made with artificial intelligence upscaling the footage, and it’s a fan project, NOT something official. The video’s description says rendering took 71 hours, and it was done on a beefy machine (Nvidia GeForce RTX 2080 Ti, Intel Core i7-9700K, NVMe SSD…). It also mentions that the Deep Dive video will also receive AI upscaling.
On Reddit, a download link was also shared, but only get the footage if you have a good Internet connection and a lot of free space, as the video is 15 GB in size. Still, you can’t do much with AI: „The original video was recorded at 1080p, so an 8K upscale from a 4K source won’t do much, even with AI shenanigans,” one comment says.
Cyberpunk 2077 will launch on September 17 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Google Stadia, and PC. There will also be an Xbox Series X version.
