It looks like we might learn the PlayStation 5‘s official pricing strategy later this day.
Roberto Serrano, an Italian business analyst and industry insider, was asked on Twitter whether he knows when Sony is planning to reveal on July 13 (today!) how much the PlayStation 5 Standard Edition and the PlayStation 5 Digital Edition (no Blu-ray drive, but cheaper) will cost. He answered „12:30 AM PT, 9:30 PM CEST.” Now that’s Pacific time should be 12:30 PM, but since he lives in Europe, such a mistake can be overlooked. So in a couple of hours from now.
Serrano might not be saying something random. Aside from how exact his prediction is down to the minute, let’s not forget that he correctly leaked the PlayStation 5 reveal event’s date (PlayStation 5: The Future of Gaming), not to mention Microsoft‘s Xbox Series X (July 23) event. Also, his pinned tweet from July 1 deserves attention. Back then, he wrote the Xbox Series X and the Xbox Series S (Lockhart, the model that Microsoft did not announce yet) will launch on November 19, and if the Lockhart does launch this year, the Xbox Series X could get a week of advantage (November 12) to not confuse the customers by having two models on the market from the get-g. The PlayStation 5, according to him, will launch on November 27, a Friday, but he added that neither dates are confirmed and Sony and Microsoft could still change these. (Maybe November 20 for the PlayStation 5?)
Still, November 19 looks suspicious. On this exact day, CD Projekt RED’s Cyberpunk 2077 will launch. Still, we will see in a few hours if Serrano was right. And then, Microsoft can likely underprice the Xbox Series X to get more customers on their side.
