The creator of A Way Out talks about The Last of Us 2 and compares Naughty Dog to FC Barcelona [VIDEO]

“If you are there, you are in the Champions League,” says Josef Fares.

The Last of Us: Part II hit stores last month, and the truth is that the new Naughty Dog adventure has not left anyone indifferent. This includes Josef Fares , the director of A Way Out , whom many will meet for his stellar appearance at The Game Awards 2017 and his positive comments about the Oscars. The fact is that the Swedish-Lebanese creator has participated in the Wassup Conversations program to talk, among other things, about the technical finish of The Last of Us 2 and how much Naughty Dog reminds him of FC Barcelona .

“I’m not going to spoil the ending, but I loved it,” says Fares. “It took me time to complete it because it went from one place to another, and the things that are there, the details … The level of detail is crazy! I don’t know how they do it, it’s crazy. Just the way they implement the ropes and other amazing you know how complex is the m ** rda? Or when someone takes his shirt off […] If I wanted to propose this to my development team, would faint, I think. So complex is this m ** rda. So we try to come up with ways to cheat so as not to show things on camera and so on, but they go to ‘Oh, this is complex? Well, let’s do it’. It’s crazy . ”

In this sense, Josef Fares compares Naughty Dog with FC Barcelona , the La Liga runner-up, as a way to highlight that it is one of the most powerful studios within the industry’s elite. “Naughty Dog is like a soccer team. It is FC Barcelona . If you play there, you better be ready. You can’t go there and get to the ‘oh, I don’t know what I do’ No! If you’re there, you’re in the Champions League . If you’re ready to go into that game, then you can go to that studio. If you’re not, you shouldn’t go there, because they are on top of this shit. You know what I mean? ”

Backed by a large company like Electronic Arts, the show’s director asked Fares if he would like to do a Triple-A game in the future like Naughty Dog’s, to which he commented: “Yeah! At some point in the future But it has to be on my own terms . ” From what you can see, the director has a lot of admiration for the California studio and his way of working, although he has not commented on the known crunch cases in Naughty Dog .
