Xbox Skips The Console War: Phil Spencer Is Planning Something Else

Phil Spencer doesn’t intend to sell more Xbox than PlayStation or Nintendo does – he thinks of services and the players.

The head of Xbox has insisted that Microsoft is committed to services for the future.

As you probably already know, Phil Spencer made it to the latest episode of Gary Whitta’s talk show on Animal Crossing: New Horizons. In Animal Talking, celebrities and well-known people chat with the writer about current affairs. We already told you that in the program Spencer recognized that the delay of Halo Infinite was a nuisance, and now we bring you new statements from the Xbox boss.

Phil Spencer has made it very clear that Microsoft’s strategy for the future is different from the traditional one and has nothing to do with that of Sony or Nintendo. “How many consoles do I sell compared to another company? That is not our focus, ” he said. If anyone still had doubts that the strategy of the Americans is going to focus on services, these statements settle the question.

The head of Xbox made it clear that Microsoft wants the experience to revolve around the user, no matter what platform they want to consume their products on. “I want to have a great TV experience and I think Xbox Series X is going to deliver it, and I’m incredibly excited about the line of games we’re building, but being an Xbox member now makes a fundamental difference from the traditional console war.” Spencer insisted.

If selling consoles was our focus, we wouldn’t put our games on PC or we wouldn’t make xCloud.” – Phil Spencer

“If selling consoles were our focus, we would not put our games on PC or Xbox One, we would not make xCloud and we would not allow people to play games on their phones,” said Phil Spencer. Additionally, the Xbox CEO said he does not disparage the approach of other companies, but re-emphasized that they are building the experience around the player. By the way, remember that xCloud is coming to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate on September 15.

The truth is that Phil Spencer’s words only confirm what we have been seeing for months; the strategy was totally obvious. Although selling consoles is not the most important thing for Microsoft, we remain expectant before the announcement of the launch date of Xbox Series X and its price, and the confirmation of the existence of Xbox Series S, something that seems an open secret, after the leak of the box of the new controller confirming compatibility with the console.
