Ubisoft: A Farewell To Discs, Or The Arrival Of The Digital Age

Ubisoft has sent a message to Xbox users: they are only getting a download code instead of discs for their collector’s editions.

A few days ago, due to numerous complaints from users through forums and social networks, we echoed a controversial decision by Ubisoft. The French company wrote a message to users who had made reservations of collector’s editions for Xbox One or Xbox Series X of their upcoming releases through its website, informing that the titles would not include a physical copy of the game, but a code for download it digitally.

Thank you for pre-ordering Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla Collector’s Edition Exclusive from the Ubisoft Store on Xbox! We want to inform you that we have made changes to this edition to include a digital version of the game instead of a physical copy on disc,” the message read. Although it is now specified that the content of these editions is exclusively digital, it was not previously shown and users assumed that taking into account that they were special editions with prices of 199 euros, a physical copy would be included on disc.

It is possible to see how the message advising of the change was received by users of the Xbox community, after all, only they’ve got this message. Now, on Ubisoft’s own website it has been updated being more specific on the matter. On the one hand, they reaffirm that Xbox users will receive a code to download the game, while they indicate just below that PlayStation owners will receive a physical copy of the disc. Even the well-known insider Shinobi specifies that those who buy the games for Sony consoles, whether for PS4 or PS5, can choose whether they prefer to receive the disc or also a digital code.

This is the case with the collector’s editions of Watch Dogs Legion, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla and Far Cry 6, which are the three most powerful releases from Ubisoft in the coming months.
