Warner Bros. Montreal’s game was finally revealed two weeks ago – we start to hear more of it.
The studio isn’t making an Arkham title (even though their previous game was Batman: Arkham Origins in 2013), and it has to prove to its fans that it isn’t your run-of-the-mill live service game, but when they announce a constant Internet connection as a requirement (which will possibly be there on PC, thanks to Denuvo), they can throw all they have previously said in the subject into the trash can. The team revealed some more details on the PlayStation Blog.
The team’s interpretation of Montreal will be bigger and more complex than before. It will feature five distinct neighbourhoods, and the fans of the comics and films will recognize some of the landmarks. The citizens will be „lively” (as much as a pre-programmed schedule will make them), as they will have specific schedules. These might make us change our plans. For instance, during specific times of the day, traffic jams will occur. Previously, Arkham felt more sterile, as it had no regular citizen NPCs.
„Red Hood is a brutal brawler with a focus on gunplay. Nightwing’s acrobatics lead to a more exaggerated style of fighting, while the current Robin favours stealth and is a dab hand at using status effects to disrupt enemies. And Batgirl? She combines a laser-focused, targeted and efficient melee fighter approach with a lot of resilience and the ability to weaponize her environment using hacking,” the PlayStation Blog says about the four protagonists.
The story will have Batman’s allies trying to expose – and eventually defeat – the Court of Owls. Other villains, such as Mr Freeze, will also show up in the Villain Crimes missions. These will take place over several nights. Investigations will be required to put them behind the bars. That’s all we know about the villains, but the studio is promising „reinvented villains, old, new and ancient.”
Gotham Knights will launch next year on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
