Sony Listens To The PlayStation 4 Party Feedback

The Party system is going to be revamped on the PlayStation 5, but the PlayStation 4 is also affected.

Sony didn’t go into many details – if any! – with the following tweet: „Hey folks – [we] just wanted to let you know that we’re looking into your feedback on the recent changes to Parties on PlayStation 4. Thanks for speaking up – we’ll keep you posted.” Now this is something we can call a PR move and nothing else – it doesn’t provide anything, but we can guess that it’s a response to the backlash regarding the recording function that the PlayStation 5 users can do, and yes, they can talk with PlayStation 4 users.

We recently talked about this new function, so we’ll just go into the relevant part: „Managing online safety is an important part of ensuring that. We believe that gamers must be able to quickly and accurately report abuse or harassment if they experience it while on the PlayStation Network. As part of this initiative, we’ve been preparing to roll out a new feature on the PlayStation 5 console that enables gamers to report verbal harassment through a new Voice Chat reporting function. Its sole purpose is to help in reporting of inappropriate behaviour, including actions that violate our Community Code of Conduct.

Please note that this feature will not actively monitor or listen in on your conversations—ever—and it’s strictly reserved for reporting online abuse or harassment. PlayStation gamers learned about this new function unexpectedly following the recent PlayStation 4 8.00 system update. We didn’t communicate this feature or explain why we were introducing it, and we apologize for that,” Catherine Jensen, Sony Interactive Entertainment’s vice president of global consumer experiences, wrote.

The recording is one-sided (only available on PlayStation 5), and Sony kept saying that the recordings are not saved, and their moderation team only gets the clips that are sent in. Still, we have yet to see what Sony is going to after this fluff announcement…
