No, don’t think of the most popular titles. Instead, consider these as the most obscure ones (or the ones known for all the wrong reasons).
The Legend of Zelda: The Faces of Evil (or not, because we got used to the naming convention… it is called Link: The Faces of Evil…) and Link: The Wand of Gamelon are not that known, especially if you are not watching a lot of YouTube videos. These games showed up on the Philips CD-i because Nintendo backstabbed Sony: they worked together on the Nintendo Play Station, but Sony found out that the big N teamed up with Philips instead. This is how they got a few Nintendo IPs, and Hotel Mario is another one of those titles that were made via this deal. (And Sony, as revenge, entered the market on their own with the PlayStation. The rest is history).
Animation Magic was developed for the two Zelda (…damn it. LINK) games on the CD-i (the Hotel Mario one was made by someone else), and their gameplay was forgettable. Not the cutscenes, though. Those got a lot of remakes and parodies, and the games now got entirely remade by a fan called Dopply. They are not just available on Windows but Linux, too!
„They are remakes using original assets available for free download. I developed these over 4 years in Game Maker as an exercise to teach myself game development and fulfil an in-joke between friends. As an amateur effort, the programming got a little rough, but hey, it works,” he said.
If you want to get them via a torrent, click here for the Linux version, or here for the Windows edition. For a MEGA direct download (the pack is a little over one gigabyte), click here for the Linux version, or here to access the Windows package.
Get them fast: Nintendo might be on the case against them, but we’re not sure if they even own the rights to these games. Then again, they don’t seem to recognize these titles that much (except they mention Morshu in the new Hyrule Warriors).
