Yoko Taro and Yosuke Saito are collaborating on two projects, meaning they will have a pretty busy 2021.
We read on Gematsu what Taro and Saito said during the „Games Industry Chit-Chat 2020 Year-End Party” live stream. Here, the duo confirmed that they are developing two games together at the moment. Taro contacted Saito with a proposal for a new game roughly a year ago. However, Saito didn’t like the idea so he turned this offer down. Then, Taro, being determined, spent an hour to present his concept to Saito.
Surprisingly, albeit reluctantly, Saito accepted the proposal and even today, he is unenthusiastic about the project, as he said: „If I could quit, I would.” However, he is far more excited about the second project. Taro and Saito mutually agreed to work on this title, which is already in development – it is planned to launch before the other project. So we will first see the game that they both enjoy doing, followed by the one where Saito (the producer of NieR: Automata) is not that excited. The publisher for both will likely be Square Enix. We do not have a clue what these two games could be, and the release windows are also not public.
Until then, we should expect NieR: Replicant ver. 1.22’s new version (we’d rather not write the full number list down, we forgot it!), which is being developed by Toylogic, and we mentioned it a few days ago. It will launch a day after the Japanese release date, on April 23 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC (likely Steam with Denuvo – Square Enix puts it into even free titles, such as the Life is Strange 2 teaser, The Awesome Adventures of Captain Spirit).
