Trey Parker and Matt Stone want a new 3D South Park game, but we have yet to see who will be behind the story of the four foul-mouthed kids.
Parker and Stone have done a new deal with the ViacomCBS conglomerate. With it, the series will continue, and there will be a lot of money going through the hands of both parties. The agreement is not only about the TV series (we wouldn’t discuss it if that were the case), and not about the… fourteen (14!) Paramount+-exclusive movies to be streamed. There’s also a mention of a new video game, Bloomberg reports.
The 600-million deal states that there will be enough cash to create “a 3D video game that is set in the world of South Park.” (We have to emphasise it, as the two previous titles, South Park: The Stick of Truth and South Park: The Fractured But Whole, were 2D games.) Knowing the humour of Parker and Stone, this game was listed right after “a weed company.” There’s also a documentary, presumably to provide behind the scenes footage.
So, South Park will get six new seasons on Comedy Central, 14 spin-off movies on Paramount+ (to expand on the existing world of South Park and introduce new characters in an interconnected “cinematic universe”, similarly to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, or MCU). One of these movies must launch by the end of 2021, and everything else must be ready by 2027.
Unfortunately, we have no clue who will publish this new game, likely a spin-off. (South Park: The Stick of Truth was developed by Obsidian and published by Ubisoft after THQ died, while South Park: The Fractured But Whole was made by Ubisoft San Francisco, with the French publisher retaining the publishing rights. They aren’t related to this game, it seems.) Stone admitted to Bloomberg that it will be internally developed.
