Robin Finck goes from music to game development, and he’s not alone in this Eyes Out vision.
According to the studio’s webpage, the two founders of Eyes Out would be Cory Davis (the director of one of the best games of 2012, Spec Ops: The Line) and Robin Finck, the guitarist of Nine Inch Nails. Their studio is based in Los Angeles, and it’s “comprised of passionate world-builders and storytellers who believe in the powerful synesthesia that emerges from music, narrative, and interactive experiences.” (Spec Ops: The Line is a prime example of most of this description: it looked shallow at first glance, but it was far more psychological and profound than that, often with fitting soundtrack pieces.)
The studio’s first project is a “single-player immersive cosmic horror game with strong environmental storytelling elements,” and its staff consists of several veteran developers who have worked on titles such as Apex Legends, Here They Lie, The Evil Within, Gears of War (presumably the 2018 PlayStation 4-exclusive reimagining), and more.
“When I was finishing up work on Here They Lie, Robin wandered into our studio, and I felt a powerful connection to his open, creative view of existence and the power of music. We instantly started working on some prototypes I had in development at the time, and together we launched straight toward something unexpected. Robin’s enthusiastic and boundless approach to the creative process drives our work far beyond my previous experience. It’s such an exhilarating trip to venture into the darkness together,” said Davis in a press release.
“Cory is a true and passionate artist. He’s a visionary leader who draws the highest and best from each person on the team, no matter their position. He’s capable and dedicated, and he’s open to forces unspeakable. He’s rare. Weird, even. We connected about films, games, music, and all the minutia, and it was a positive charge colliding with him. We have a simpatico work ethic and drive, and we see each other soul to soul. Our play together is inspired,” Finck added.
This Eyes Out collaboration might result in something incredible, and the studio doesn’t even have to look around for the soundtrack. Finck can get that sorted, and the game might even have exclusive material produced by Nine Inch Nails…
