Leisure Suit Larry ‘s second, third, and… “fifth” adventure is now available for free.
Recently, Indiegala provided the first Leisure Suit Larry game for free from 1987. Its two sequels, the 1988-released Leisure Suit Larry 2: Looking For Love (In Several Wrong Places) and 1989’s Leisure Suit Larry III: Passionate Patti in Pursuit of the Pulsating Pectorals can now also be obtained on PC. All you have to do is make an account on the site to download the adventures of a loser who desperately wants to get laid. (That’s the gist of the franchise, really…)
However, we’re putting Leisure Suit Larry 5: Passionate Patti Does a Little Undercover Work in a separate paragraph for a good reason. The previous two games were classic text command adventure games from Sierra, while the “fifth” title switched to a more modern full-on point-and-click approach in its gameplay with fewer dead ends (traditionally part of the genre).
You may have noticed how the fourth title doesn’t seem to be mentioned. There’s an explanation for it. Al Lowe, the creator of the series, intended to close the story of Larry with Leisure Suit Larry III: Passionate Patti in Pursuit of the Pulsating Pectorals (he had a trilogy), but he had to crunch to finish the game. He got sick of the series and the character, claiming not to create LSL4. That game to this day still doesn’t exist. The next game was Leisure Suit Larry 5: Passionate Patti Does a Little Undercover Work, with Larry suffering from amnesia, forgetting a whole game’s worth of adventures. Hah, clever…
Larry Laffer lives to this day, which can’t be said about the two spin-off’s protagonist, Larry Lovage (let’s just say Leisure Suit Larry: Magna Cum Laude was horrible). But enough rambling, have fun with the three games.
