Why recreate Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic? Well, nearly 20 years after its initial release, the original KOTOR is still one of the most beloved games of all time. And even as Star Wars travels to new horizons, we know the community is as eager as ever to return to this iconic era of storytelling and action.

We hope the series will provide newcomers and longtime fans alike with an experience that stands up to the best of modern publishing. We’re rebuilding the game from the ground up with the latest technology to match the groundbreaking level of innovation set by the original while staying true to the revered story.

The game that everyone calls KOTOR, as well as its sequel, might show up on newer consoles so that newer generations can meet the work previously done by BioWare and Obsidian, nearly two decades ago.

Aspyr has brought together some of the best talents in the industry who have worked on great RPGs and some of the original Knights of the Old Republic development team to create the game. Their knowledge and passion for the characters, story and world are unmatched. And who is Aspyr? You probably know us as the studio responsible for adapting several Star Wars games to modern systems, including Star Wars Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast, Star Wars Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy, Star Wars: Episode I – Racer, Star Wars: Republic Commando, and yes, the original Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic!

No, the universe of KOTOR pretty much is identical to the well-known Star Wars world: strange animals, The Republic, everybody still uses the hyperspace to travel large distances in space, the good citizens resolve their differences in this time are done with laser blasters.

We’ve worked closely with Lucasfilm Games for years on the classic Star Wars games, and that experience has instilled in our team a deep love and respect for these timeless titles, as well as a unique perspective on how to bring them into the modern era. We’re proud to be working with Sony Interactive Entertainment and Lucasfilm Games to make this dream a reality.

What’s next? Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic – Remake is a massive undertaking, encompassing almost every original game aspect. We’re still in the early stages of development, but we’re excited to finally announce the remake and hear from the PlayStation community about what you’d like to see.
